Obviously, you want more options.

Luckily for you, we have tried and tested several snowmobile jackets.

And we have curated a list of the best options for you, based on affordability, overall usage, features, and usecases.

Changes We Made in the Article: On November 2nd, 2023, we updated our review of Klim Klimate Winter Jacket, and changed our recommendation for women’s snowmobile jacket.

Our Team’s Top Picks

Best Overall Snowmobile Jacket

Klim Klimate Winter Jacket

The Klim Klimate Winter Jacket is our top pick for the snowmobile riders.

It has all the features a snowmobile or snowbike rider needs.

To find out if this is really the best jacket for the riders, we did our best to test it in the most real and practical scenarios to see how this jacket performs.

It has good amount of insulation which is varied as per the requirement of the rider.

The body has 260g, sleeves 220g, and the collar 100g of insulation which was suitable for trail and mountain riding activities.

The company claims that their jacket is guaranteed to keep you dry.

And after testing this jacket for the whole day in Colorado, we found that it’s true.

After riding in deep snow and light rain, the jacket kept us warm and dry which was expected and as claimed by the company.

To write this review, we tested multiple Klim jackets, and we noticed that the ventilation is quite good in all the Klim jackets.

If we talk about this particular jacket, we started our testing in the early morning when it was very cold, and we were very comfortable in this jacket.

But in the afternoon we started riding aggressively and we were feeling too warm in the jacket. So we opened up the ventilation zippers under the armpits, and it helped a lot to regulate the temperature.

When we were riding in the snow covered forest, the durable overlays in shoulders and elbow really protected the jacket as we were constantly getting hit by the tree branches.

Overall, during the whole testing process, we didn’t find any problems in this jacket.

And that’s why, we even declared it as the best Klim snowmobile jacket as there is no doubt Klim is the best snowmobile gear brand.

Pros

  • Good amount of insulation to keep you warm.
  • Ventilation zippers.
  • Waterproof material.

Cons

  • We found none.

Best Value for Money

Fly Racing Carbon Snow Jacket

The Fly Racing Carbon Snow Jacket is our best value for money pick because we didn’t find any other jacket that gave so much value in this price range.

This jacket costs less than the Klim snowmobile jackets.

But while testing we found that it was close to them in terms of quality.

The Fly Racing Carbon Snow Jacket is windproof and waterproof.

We were riding at 70 mph in light rain, and it kept us warm and dry.

We did have a base layer underneath but overall we were impressed with its windproof and waterproof ability.

The insulation of this jacket was also good and comparable to the slightly expensive jackets of FXR and Klim.

We were really surprised to find so many features in this jacket. The detachable hood, safety whistle and goggle wipe are very helpful during backcountry rides. Such features are not available in most of the other jackets.

The ventilation of the jacket was also good. There are a total of 4 vent ports, 2 arm vents and 2 large front vents. There were several times, when we had to open arm vents to regulate the temperature, but we didn’t need to open the front vents.

If you’re riding aggressively along with wearing heavy thermal base layer, probably you may want to open the front vents as well.

There were so many other features that helped us to declare it as the best value for money buy.

But while riding through thick forest and tree branches, we felt that this jacket should have better shoulder and elbow protection than it did. Other than that, we were happy with this jacket.

Pros

  • Budget-friendly.
  • Windproof and waterproof.
  • Decent insulation.
  • Extra features like detachable hood, safety whistle and goggle wipe.
  • Good ventilation.

Cons

  • Shoulders and elbows could have better protection

Warmest Snowmobile Jacket

Klim Keweenaw Jacket

The Klim Keweenaw Jacket is the warmest snowmobile jacket we tested so far, and it’s the best jacket for trail riding.

With the Keweenaw Jacket, Klim did a really good job to create their warmest jacket that is very versatile and durable.

The previous version of the Keweenaw Jacket was also good.

But then based on the feedback taken from the riders, they did extensive amount of testing, and now we have one of the warmest snowmobile jackets from Klim which is way better than their previous version of Keweenaw jacket.

It has all the features you ever need in your riding jacket.

It’s warm, comfortable, durable and contains ventilation zippers that will regulate your temperature and will ensure that you don’t get too warm and sweaty.

When we were riding wearing this jacket, we started our day early in the morning. Since the visibility was limited, the jacket’s reflective material really helped which makes it visible in low light conditions.

The shoulders and elbows are well built and durable so we had no problems riding through the forest.

It has everything you need, but for most of the riders, this jacket can be a little expensive.

It’s the most expensive snowmobile jacket we tested. And it made us think if it is really worth the price.

So, we offer our two cents by saying that if you’re riding in the very cold weather, purchasing this expensive snowmobile jacket is worth it and can be a good investment.

But, if you’re short on budget, going with the other Klim jackets or Fly Racing Jacket can be the better and more practical option for you.

Pros

  • Warmest jacket of all.
  • Very comfortable.
  • Versatile and durable.
  • Good ventilation.
  • Well built shoulders and elbows for protection.

Cons

  • Can be too expensive for some users.

Best Affordable

Castle X Platform Jacket

The Castle X Platform Jacket is one of the best affordable jackets, but not the cheapest one we tested.

Even though so many cheaper jackets are available, we wanted to include only those that are suitable for riding a snowmobile.

The Castle X Platform Jacket is very affordable yet it has everything a snowmobile rider needs.

The 200g of body insulation and 150g of sleeves insulation makes it an ideal jacket for snowmobiling, even in the colder days.

The insulation of this jacket is similar to Klim jackets, but it is cheaper does not have some extra features.

When we were riding at high speed on trails and riding aggressively in the deep snow, we found that the quality of this jacket is really good.

The underarm vents did a great job of regulating our body temperatures when it was getting too hot.

But, this jacket lacks the durability.

When we were riding through the forest and scratching by the tree branches and bushes, we could feel that this jacket will not last many seasons.

Another thing that we noticed is that it’s not waterproof, it’s water resistant.

When we were riding in the light rain, and in the deep snow, after a few hours of riding, we noticed it became a little wet from the inside.

But, it’a great jacket for this price range as it has all the important features you need. If you’re not riding in the forest or in the rain, this jacket can be a good choice.

Pros

  • Affordable and budget-friendly.
  • Good ventilation.
  • Good warmth.

Cons

  • Not as durable as expensive jackets.
  • Not waterproof but only water resistant.

Best Women’s Snowmobile Jacket

Castle X Powder G3 Jacket

The female riders of our team picked the Castle X Powder G3 Jacket as the best women’s snowmobile jacket.

But, the Klim Women’s Spark Jacket was a close competitor, and ended up being a runner up.

The first thing we really liked is the design of this jacket which was much better than other jackets. It is also available in many different colors.

The detachable hood is a good thing and can be helpful in many situations when you are not riding your snowmobile, and taking a rest in the cold weather.

The 200g of body insulation and 150g of sleeves insulation is good for riding snowmobile in most of the days.

This insulation is lesser than the Klim Women’s Spark Jacket.

But, the difference is small, and it can be easily covered by wearing a good thermal base layer underneath.

We also found that the fitting of this jacket is also better than the Klim Spark Jacket, and it is designed with precision for the women’s body.

Overall, it is a good women’s jacket with several features which are helpful when riding in the snow.

Pros

  • Detachable hood.
  • Good design and fitting.
  • Available in different colors.

Cons

  • Insulation is not as good as Klim’s jacket.

How We Tested Snowmobile Jackets

We picked up a variety of snowmobile jackets ranging from cheap to expensive, well known to new comers and having different range of features.

We tested these jackets in situations which are likely to be faced by any snowmobile rider.

We went for aggressive riding in the afternoon to test out the ventilation of the jackets, because that’s when weather is warmer and most riders feel too hot inside their jackets which can lead to sweating.

We also tried riding through the thick forest trails to see how these jackets perform when scratched by bushes and tree branches. This helped us to test the durability and shoulder and elbow protection of the jackets.

Snowmobiling can be done in mild to extremely cold weather. So we also tested the jackets in varying cold conditions to see which ones are the warmest. Design, fitting and comfort can’t be ignored either.

It was obvious that not all jackets met our requirements of being good enough for all the situations described above. But some did.

So in this review, we only included the best snowmobile jackets we found in our testing.

Buying Guide for a Snowmobile Jacket

Air Vents

It may sound counterintuitive that a snowmobile jacket needs air vents, when you are riding in cold weather. But overheating inside is a very common situation when riding aggressively in the afternoon when the weather is warmer.

When we are feeling too hot, we start to sweat. Sweating should be avoided when riding in cold temperatures.

To prevent overheating, the best snowmobile jackets provide air vents to ensure just the right amount of circulation to prevent overheating.

If you are gonna be riding on warm afternoons, you should consider the jacket with good ventilation.

Insulation

Well this one is intuitive. You want good protection from the cold and the wind while riding in the snow. A very good insulation is needed to protect you from the low temperatures and keep you warm.

But the amount of insulation largely depends on the temperatures you would be riding in. So choose accordingly. If you are unsure, a 200g insulation should be good enough for most situations.

Comfort and Fitting

When you are riding in the uneven terrain and deep snow, at high speeds, the last thing you want is to feel uncomfortable in your jacket.

A jacket that is too tight or loose is not a good choice. Also women riders should consider the jackets designed for women’s body to get the right fitting.

Durability and Reinforcements

Your snowmobile jacket is not just keeping you warm but also protecting you from scratches. A jacket with well built shoulders and elbows is a must if you are riding in forests with a lot of low branches and bushes.

A jacket that is not very durable will easily get damaged and torn when riding through the forests.

So choose a jacket that is made from durable material and has good shoulder and elbow protection.

Waterproofness

Getting wet while snowmobiling can be a huge problem. But it is also not uncommon for the weather to change suddenly.

A waterproof jacket is a must to keep you dry even in rain. But if you are riding in nice warm sunny days, a water resistant jacket can also be good enough.

Conclusion

Choosing the right snowmobile jacket can be difficult given so many things you have to consider. But making the right choice can make your snowmobile ride so much more comfortable, safe and enjoyable.

If you are confused by the countless options online, you can easily pick one from the list we shared above, depending on your requirements, be it budget-friendly or the warmest one. They are all tried and tested to make your decision easier.
